Group E and F results
It was a bad day for me in terms of prediction. All my prediction went way off.
Slovakia 3 Italy 2
Defending Champion Italy are out of the world cup after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Slovakia. Slovakia thus qualify to the last 16 with the results. Italy had been very poor. Their problem is at the centre of their defence. Fabio Cannavaro is not the Cannavaro of old and it was obvious before the world cup especially when he was playing for Juventus but Lippi continue to select him. And that was a mistake. It is definetly the end of the road for him and also for Lippi. Then today, i cannot understand why Marcello Lippi choose to come back and coach Italy when he resigned after leading Italy to the 2006 World Cup. It was a move that backfires badly. Slovakia finally emerge from the shadow of their illustrious history as Czechoslovakia and more recently their more illustrious neighbour in Czech Republic. But their fairytale to end in the last 16 with a meeting with Holland.
Paraguay 0 New Zealand 0
New Zealand can held their head high despite being eliminated from the world cup after drawing 0-0 with paraguay. They will be the only team that was eliminated from the group stage at this world cup without losing a game. Paraguay can look forward to their last 16 clash against
Cameroon 1 Holland 2
Holland continue their good form with a 2-1 win over Cameroon and thus being the only European team that qualify for the last 16 a 100% record. Argentina were the other team in the touramnet with the record. It is end of the road surely for Paul Le Guen and some of the old guards in Rigobert Song and Geremi. Cameroon needs to rebuild for the next African Cup.
Japan 3 Denmark 1
Never expect Japan to win Denmark and to win by two goals. Japan and South Korea will fly Asia flag into the round of 16. A tie with Paraguay is their reward for their great win. For Denmark, it is end of the road for their seasoned players in Rommedahl, Gronkjaer, Tomasson, Sorensen. Maybe their failure to score more against Cameroon have cost them.
