**Common Test result**

26/7/2005
Got back 3 common test papers today. Quite please with my own performance. First paper back is ACEP at 8am. Very please with the result. Who would not be please when they score 60/60 for the paper? Then got EMAT at 12 noon and was glad I got 82/100. Did not study quite hard for the paper so was taken by surprise by the result I got. But I must admit Mr. Aurora mark quite leniently for the paper. Got back TPHM at around 4 pm. Quite disappointed with TPHM. Only 45/50, expected to do better than that. But never mind, overall the result of the three modules is pleasing.
Summary: ACEP 60/60, EMAT 82/100, TPHM 45/50

**Common Test week**

18/05/2005-24/07/2005
Firstly I would like to thank Sheila for the encouraging word she sent to me via SMS before the common test. Thanks for the feedback you have given me and I will do the necessary self-evaluation especially on the point that I often appear stress. And of course Sheila, I will try to be happy always.
Monday (18/7)-Nothing unusual happen. Study with Tze Hian in school. Then went to work at around 3.
Tuesday( 19/7)-Flipped through some ACEP tutorial then off to work again.
Wednesday (20/7)- Finally the arrival first paper for common test. Mr. Joel was late and we start the paper later than people taking other paper. ACEP paper was quite easy. Not too certain about question 1 but I do not see me losing losing mark in question 2 and 3. Then went home to rest before studying ENV.
Thursday (21/7)- ENV paper was next up and man the paper was easy. I really regretted not studying harder for the paper. Cost me around 20 marks for not studying hard. The most infuriating thing is I wrote 1000 as 10 to the power of 4. Really a big blunder and I will cost me around 7 marks just because of this mistake as the question is just a part question and the error will be brought down affecting all the other answer. Study EMAT later that night.
Friday (22/7)- Today sat for 2 common test paper. EMAT in the morning followed by TPHM in the afternoon. My EMAT really sucks big time. What is the 2 types of solid solution alloys. What is inter-metallic compound. What is the Strain. What is yield point? My mind was full of question mark when I do the paper. I was like I have never come across these terms. The terms look so profound to me, a total stranger. I left the test venue after 45 mins, I really have nothing to write on the paper. Anyway at the start of the semester, I had already predicted that I will not score well in EMAT. I will be joyous if I got around 70 marks for the paper. Read through the TPHM tutorial as part of the preparation for the test during the break between the two papers. Think can do well. Should be able to get at least 40/50.

**Thank You, Friends**

17/05/2005
Tomorrow is the start of the Common test week. But my first paper starts only on Wednesday. ACEP paper will be first up. It is all calculation work so work one or two past semester paper should be sufficient enough. It is the Thursday and Friday paper that worries me more. ENV and EMAT are the two problematic modules that I faced some kind of trouble studying. But still hope to do well in these two modules nonetheless. Must start working on this two module already. Had a bad headache for the whole day so not much revision was done. However, I did complete the ACEP and TPHM paper which Kathleen photocopied for me on Friday. So nice of her to help me photocopied the paper. Thank you, Kathleen. The paper is quite manageable and I do not foresee me having any major problem in these two modules. TPHM and ACEP are two module I really hope to score well for the common test. In the afternoon went out to get some present for Sim Yi Hui and Ming Chuen. Will be handing them their present on Wednesday before the ACEP paper. As I had talked about the pervious entry that I not being a good friend, I will like to take this opportunity to thanks some of my friends who had always been there for me when help is needed in one way or another.
First group of friends is of course my secondary friends especially classmates and those from the same stream. Apology to my primary school friends that you are not the first group being thanks because I have very limited impression of your guys. Spent the best part of five year with my sec school friends so there are quite a number of them I wanted to thanks. Lay Ping, Yong Chong, James Teh, Gek Choon, Li Xiang, Gibson, Kee Siang, Hafiz, Razi, Wei Shiong from 5N1(2003). Beng Wai, Johny, Shou Gui, Zhi Hong from 5N2(2003). These two classes of friends really treat me well these years and I would like to give them this moment of glory. Remember those days we play soccer and basketball together. Studying like mad for the N and O levels. I really miss those days and you guys.
Second group is the rest of my secondary school friends from other classes. Rui Hao, Ivan, Ban Chuan, Jun Sien and I cannot recall some of the names already but nonetheless I am really thankful to have your all as friends.
Thirdly is the most special group of friends. I am referring to my dearest tuition friends of course. Jackie Goh, Lay Hoe, Ah Zuo, Tse Yuen, Xin Hui, Xun Wei, Kar Heng, Jonathan, Chin Wei, Adrian, Wan Ling, Fen Niu, Ser Guan, Ying Ting and a lot more. I really cannot recall your all name. I always remember we will engage some sort of sports before we start our tuition start. I really miss those days where we play soccer with plastic ball, shoot basketball in the basketball court. The days where you guys call me the Kelong Keeper. It is really a pleasure to know you guys.
Fourthly is no doubt my current bunch of polytechnic friends. Those from my class: Tze Hian, Ming Chuen, Wee Keong, Bernard Tan, Sheila, Alvin Chew, Kenneth Cheong, Sim Yi Hui, Bernard Lim, Wei Jian, Phoon Yin, Cheng Yee, Felicia, Hassan, Melvin Lim, Joseph, Su Jun. Those from CE(other class): Kathleen, Steven, Teng Yong, Xin Wei, Jian Wei, Pei Shan, Ai Ling, Gerard, Wen Kai, Jui Sern, Si Jie, Bing Hui. Other course: Yi Ping, Sam, Shawn and a lot more. Thanks for everything you have done for me. I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to my 2AO8 classmates. If I have shown any bad behavior or have being unreasonable to your guys please pardon my mistake and correct my mistake if possible. As I am typing, I realize that I was very lucky because I was surrounded by good people who made my life more meaningful. To my Np friends especially to 2AO8 mates, I sincerely wish your guys all the best in your Common Test and hope your guys pass with flying colours.

**Had a great time at class outing**

13/7/2005
Today was the much anticipated class outing. Was really excited and wake up quite early that morning. Pack some clothes for the chalet and head to Admiralty to meet Alvin, Bernard Tan. Took 3 buses to reach Admiralty from my house. Took 180 from Boon Lay interchange and change to 187 at Bukit Panjang. And 965 from woodlands. Reach Admiralty at 10.30 am. Oh I reach there too early so have a quick breakfast at KFC. We suppose to meet at 11am. Then meet Alvin first and Bernard Tan came at bit late because he had valid reason. So we then went to the wet market to get the stingray with the help of Alvin mum. Then we head to the bus-stop to take 912 to Alvin house. Meet Sheila there also. We arrive at Alvin house next. Alvin dog was there to greet us upon arrival at Alvin house. Left his house at around 2 plus and from there we head to LOYANG ALOHA, the destination for our class outing this semester. Reach there around 3 plus because we took cab there. But along the way, we found out that we have left some stuff at Alvin house. So Alvin phoned Su Jun to buy the butter and Joseph to take the cuttleball we left at Alvin house. Also happening along the way was some message I receive from Tze Hian. One of the message really hurt me. The extract from that message is something like this. You really hate me that much and Are you faking me? These words really hurt me. But now everything is ok already after a chat with him. I want to thanks Wei Jian for hearing my problem during the chalet. I was quite please with the turnout for this class outing. With the exception of Bernard Lim, every member of 2AO8 were at that chalet. I am also pleased that some 2A05 and 2A07 come to join us. One of the event that happen that led me to feel disappointed is that one of the 2A05 people bring his girlfriend with him. But the matter is resolved now. Later at around midnight, went to downtown east Pasir Ris bowl with Tze Hian for some bowling game. Play three games. But the performance of the three games is quite disappointing. Average only around fifty odd pins. Need more practice. Later at around one plus am, 2AO8 people gathered together to discuss about Tze Hian and let him know how we felt about his odd behavior this semester. I hope the class will really give him that chance to change. This chalet make me realize that I am not a good friend. I always thought that by printing notes to you friend makes you a good friend. But I realize that down deep that I had flopped badly as a friend. Can someone give me the definition of what makes a good friend? A good friend should always listen to your friend problems and spent quality time with them. I think I had flopped badly in that area. I did not know Tze Hian faced so many problems back home and I have never spent quality time with any of my 2AO8 classmates. I have never spent time outside curriculum time with any of my 2A08 friends. If you ask any 2AO8 people whether they have gone out with Elvin Ker other than Study purpose. Their answer will be a NO. This really shows what kind of friend I was. Sorry 2AO8 friends, I really have neglect your guys and take your guys for granted. I am really sorry. The class also talks about the class representative issue. I am really touched to know that your guys had always liked me to be your class rep. Thanks You class. But let me state this clear. Alvin Chew is 2AO8 class rep for this semester and I am sure it will continue for next semester. I do not see me being the class rep for the foreseeable future. Never. Alvin had done a good job and the class should be appreciative of what Alvin had done to the class. Alvin made the class outing possible with his organization skill and he had strong leadership skill, a passion to serve the class which is needed to be a good class rep. I lacked those qualities sadly, this I had to admit. So class please thanks Alvin for all the good work had done for the class when you guys see him the next time. Went home with Alvin, Kenneth, Wee Keong and Bernard Tan. Reach home around 1-2 pm then the next thing I was in bed. Really exhausted. I had a great class outing. I really do hope 2AO8 friends also feel the same thing.

Update..
Here are 1 photo we took in the chalet..

**Looking forward to the class outing**

12/7/2005
Tomorrow, Wednesday (13/7) is our day for class outing. Really looking forward to the class outing in tomorrow. Yesterday went to buy the BBQ stuff with Alvin Chew, Bernard Tan and Sheila. Bought a lot of things ranging from the tongs needed for BBQ to the food stuff. Went Alvin house later to put the BBQ stuff at his house. Saw his dog which I suppose he bought recently. The dog is so cute but was shy because it is the first time the dog see me. Then went to NTUC at 888 Plaza to buy some cuttleball. Then went to Alvin house for the second time. In between the NTUC and going back to his house, we sat at a coffee shop for an hour plus. We chatted about certain thing. The class outing was one of the main talking point. I realize that it is really hard on Alvin these few weeks because of all the pressure in making the class outing a success in less than a week. Thanks a lot Alvin for all the hard work he put in and I do really hope the class would really go up to him and thanks him after the outing. I knew that the class outing matter had cause some friction between 2AO8 people. I really hope that the friction will ease off sooner rather than later. I hope that the class relationship is like the past two semesters when the class is quite united and happy. I REALLY HOPE THAT THERE WILL BE NO ONE FROM OTHER CLASS WHO WILL HAVE ANY ATTEMPT TO TRY TO CREATE CONFLICT WITHIN 2AO8. This message is convey to certain idiotic people in our lecture hall. I also know that the class outing saga had seriously jeopardized 2AO8 relationship with 2AO7. But I really do hope these problems will be resolved soon and hopefully our relationship will be back to normal in no time. Sometimes being ignorance of things happening around you will make you a happy person as you do not need to bother so much about thing that does not concern you. It made me sad to know all the unhappy events that are happening. And I could not agree more with Alvin Chew when he told me that being ignorance is definitely bliss. Look at the 2A06 people, I always look at them in envy because they always seem happy and very united within their group. They do not bother about what is happening about other class and are contended with the companionship of their friends. Later at night go to temple, get some kind of bursary, $400. This money come in handy as the class outing is tomorrow. Yeah looking forward to the class outing. Today went to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to study with Tze Hian and Bernard Tan. Later Su Jun and Steven come. That is all for today

**Group Project are a headache**

I am feeling quite down these days. I really hope that I live in the world where there is free of worry, troubles and uncertainties. Looking back to the events that happen this semester, I rally hope that some of the unhappy events had not happen. First is the problem of group project. This is the MOST unhappy problems I face really this semester. I remember vividly Hassan was the odd one out when the grouping of ICBE/OIC project which requires us to design a poster. He was later group with Ming Chuen, Yi Hui and Joseph if I am not wrong. However deep down in my heart, I know that Hassan did not want to be in the same group as Joseph and Yi Hui. Because of this incident, I realize that sometimes people tend to be selfish and not consider about others when one has to choose a group to work with. People tend to choose group mates of the same race. Hassan was left out and put into a group which he does not like because of my apparent selfishness. I start to feel bad from that onwards and vowed to myself to let Hassan be in the group of his choice in Level 2.2 at all cost. The first day of the new semester was a Tuesday and 2A08 had to choose our chemical engineering lab 2.2 groups. I choose to be with Ming Chuen, Bernard Tan and Wee Keong. I had chosen the best possible group to be with really. And Hassan was group with Alvin Chew, Kenneth and Tze Hian. I was happy that Hassan was in that group because I knew that Alvin and Kenneth will share the work equally and of course treat Hassan well. Then came the TPHM project. Alvin had chosen his group. Kenneth, Alvin, Sheila, Seok Cheng then Gerald form Alvin group. I had already decided with my CEL2.2 group that we are sticking together for the TPHM project. But one day before the tutorial, Hassan told me that he had no group and wanted to group with me. But looking at the scenario, I thought that Hassan deserve to be in a better group. So I let him be with Wee Keong, Bernard Tan and Ming Chuen. Then I was left with Tze Hian and Joseph. I decided to form a group with them. But Alvin, Sheila, Bernard Tan and Ming Chuen voiced their disapproval of my group. They think that they will have limited contribution to the project and hope I choose a better group for the project. I understand their worry about my group member not doing work and really thank them for their concern. But this group was chosen by me and I will bear full responsibility in the event that I failed this project. EMAT was next up and this is the moment when I really had a fall out with Tze Hian. Initially my EMAT report group consists of me, Wee keong, Bernard Tan, Joseph and Ming Chuen. But Wee Keong left us for the other group because the other group short of people. Then my group is left with Bernard Tan, Joseph, me and Ming Chuen. Alvin group had Su Jun, Kenneth and Hassan. The odd one out was Tze Hian and my group made the stand that Tze Hian was not welcomed in my group. It was really nice of Alvin to take in Tze Hian despite opposition from his group member. Thanks a lot Alvin. Then ENV was the next module where there is a group project needed to be submitted. This ENV project allow cross class so Hassan had chosen Teng Yong and Xin Wei to be in his group. He needed one more member so he approached me whether I am willing to let Wee Keong join their group. I was ok with the suggestion but got a scolding from Bernard Tan. But I am ok because it is my fault. Then Tze Hian found out that he is group less and start hurling vulgarities. Get quite offended but forgive him le. Friendship is all about compromise and accommodation. Have to get on with life. Lucky I always have good people around me for example Bernard Tan, Alvin Chew, Ming Chuen and Sheila. Thanks for all your encouragement that you guys have given me for this semester. Hope the group saga will not continue to next semester or not I will be really sad. That is all for the latest entry.
